Victim Lured From Home Before Violent Assault in Southland
Police are appealing for information after a man in his 50s was brutally attacked in Edendale, Southland, in what appears to have been a planned assault, Stuff reports.
According to police, the incident unfolded around 10.55pm on Saturday when a woman knocked on the victim’s door claiming she needed help with a flat tyre.
When the man walked with her to the corner of Melvin St and Turner St, he was suddenly confronted by a second offender and assaulted.
During the attack, the offenders attempted to tie the victim’s hands behind his back. He sustained serious injuries, including a fractured eye socket and a broken nose.
Stuff reports that following the assault, the victim saw an SUV speeding away from the scene. Police believe the attackers were travelling in that vehicle.
Investigators are now working to identify the man and woman involved and are urging Edendale residents to assist.
Police are asking anyone with street-facing CCTV footage on Turner St, Melvin St, Seawood Rd, or Ferry Rd to check their recordings for sightings of the SUV between 10pm and midnight on Saturday. They are also seeking any information about suspicious activity or vehicle sightings in the area.
Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact police on 105.
