NSW couple accused of killing woman before going on holiday
A New South Wales woman and her new partner have been accused of murdering her former partner before allegedly leaving the body behind and going on a holiday. Reported by 1News.
Anne-Marie Streek, 40, and Stephen Henry Evans, 44, were arrested on Thursday and charged with the murder of a 48-year-old woman in Goulburn, in the NSW Southern Tablelands. Police allege the woman was killed on December 30, 2025, but her body was not discovered until January 3.
Investigators believe Streek had been in a long-term relationship with the victim until May 2025. She later entered a live-in relationship with Evans, who lived next door.
"We were quite confident from the onset that it was likely that the victim's former partner was involved in this matter," Detective Superintendent Joe Doueihi told reporters on Friday.
"Both the male and female have been charged with a domestic violence related murder."
Police found the woman’s body after officers forced entry into the property while conducting a welfare check. She was discovered with multiple stab wounds.
"An associate of the deceased female who had an appointment with her and (the deceased) had failed to turn up," Doueihi said.
While the motive for the alleged killing remains unclear, police claim the accused left the body in the house and went on a four-day trip to Lake Burrinjuck the day after her death.
Police said Evans has an extensive criminal history, including previous domestic violence matters, while Streek was previously known only for minor offences.
Doueihi said the case highlighted that domestic violence can occur across all types of relationships.
"Domestic violence is not limited to male-female relationship, as we know in this instance," he said.
"We don't tolerate any form of domestic violence regardless of who the victims are."
Both Streek and Evans were refused bail and are scheduled to appear before Goulburn Local Court on April 15.
