India and Pakistan have agreed to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea from 5pm IST today, following a direct communication between top military officials of the two nations, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed on Wednesday.

“Pakistan called Indian Directors General of Military Operations at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours IST,” said Vikram Misri.

He added that both sides have issued instructions to enforce the agreement on the ground. “The Directors General of Military Operations will have another discussion on 12th May at 1200 hours,” he said.

External Affairs minister S Jaishankar shortly tweeted, announcing that India and Pakistan have "worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action".

The development came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a breakthrough in ceasefire talks mediated by the United States.

The ceasefire announcement follows a sharp rise in hostilities after a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 people were killed.

India responded with a series of targeted military operations under Operation Sindoor, striking what officials described as major terror infrastructure inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). These included headquarters of banned terror groups Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

New call-to-action

The Indian Air Force conducted night raids on nine key locations, hitting targets such as the Markaz Subhan Allah at Bahawalpur, Sarjal at Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli, and Syedna Bilal camp in Muzaffarabad—facilities linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Other Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked sites hit included the Markaz Taiba at Murdike, Markaz Ahle Hadith at Barnala, and the Shwawai Nalla camp in Muzaffarabad.

Both nations are expected to hold further talks to ensure the ceasefire holds.
