Indian Air Force (IAF) Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth has achieved another historic milestone by becoming the first woman fighter pilot to successfully complete the prestigious Fighter Combat Leader (FCL) course at the Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE) in Gwalior.
According to India Today, the 20-week FCL programme is considered one of the IAF’s most demanding advanced combat courses and is reserved for a select group of fighter pilots. Successful completion of the course qualifies pilots to lead complex air combat missions and places them among the Air Force’s frontline combat tacticians.

A Course Comparable to the US ‘Top Gun’
TACDE is regarded as the Indian Air Force’s premier institution for fighter tactics and advanced air combat training. According to India Today, the establishment is often compared with the US Navy’s famous “Top Gun” programme, officially known as the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor programme.

Kanth joined the IAF alongside Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh, who were also part of the pioneering group that opened a new chapter for women in India's fighter aviation.
Since joining the service, Kanth has been associated with several important milestones for women in military aviation. According to India Today, she became the first Indian woman cleared to undertake daytime fighter combat missions in 2019.
