How much will it cost?

Expect around NZD 18–23 per m² for ceiling insulation and NZD 19–25 per m² for underfloor insulation; 2–3 installer quotes recommended.

Are payment options available?

Yes — options include Auckland Council’s Retrofit Your Home scheme, interest‑free ANZ loan top‑ups, and other financing.

Who is a qualified installer?

A qualified installer works to NZS 4246:2016 and has completed Insulation Association of New Zealand (IAONZ) installer training.

Where can I find qualified installers?

Look into Auckland Council’s Retrofit Your Home list, the Warmer Kiwi Homes programme, IAONZ member installers, or the Community Energy Network.

What types of insulation products are available?

Insulation types include fibreglass, polyester, polystyrene, cellulose/mineral fibre, and wool — consider damp performance, settling, safety, endorsements (e.g. BRANZ), recyclability, lifespan, and guarantees.

How do I decide on a product?

Decide based on R‑value effectiveness — minimum NZ code requires R2.9 for ceilings and R1.3 for underfloors, although higher R‑values are better.

Can I install insulation myself?

Yes, but ensure safety gaps around heat sources; use Mitre 10 videos or Standards NZ guides for proper DIY installation.
