Trade Me CEO Anders Skoe will step down at the end of September after seven years with the company. He will be replaced by Kul Singh Kargil, the former Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer of REA Group.

Taking to LinkedIn after the announcement, Kargil said Trade Me is much more than a company. "For generations of kiwi, it has been part of everyday life. A place where we've bought, sold, searched, discovered and connected," he wrote.

Trade Me Chair Owen Wilson said Skoe had decided it was time to leave the company and return to Europe.

During his time as CEO, Skoe led Trade Me through significant strategic changes and strengthened the platform’s core offerings in New Zealand.

“On behalf of the Board, I want to extend our deepest gratitude to Anders for his outstanding leadership and dedication over the years. He leaves Trade Me in a strong position for future success.”

Skoe said leaving Trade Me was not an easy decision but that he was confident in the company’s future.

“It has been a privilege to lead Trade Me and work alongside such a talented and passionate team.

“I am immensely proud of everything we accomplished together to serve our customers and our community. The company is in a strong position and I am delighted to hand the baton to Kul – I look forward to seeing where he takes Trade Me next’.

New CEO brings extensive experience

Kargil will take over as Trade Me’s new CEO following his role at REA Group, where he was responsible for commercial operations, audience, brand, customer experience and marketing.

Before joining REA Group, he held senior leadership roles in strategy, marketing, sales and brand at GE Capital and GlaxoSmithKline.

"25 years ago, I left New Zealand and today, I'm incredibly excited to share that I'm coming home to join Trade Me as CEO," Kargil said in a LinkedIn post.

Wilson said Kargil had the experience needed to lead Trade Me through its next stage of growth.“We are thrilled to welcome Kul Singh Kargil as our new CEO.

“Kul brings a wealth of executive experience, deep operational expertise, and a proven track record delivering business growth. The Board is confident that his vision and customer-centric approach make him the ideal person to lead the company.”

Kargil said he was excited to return to New Zealand and take on the role.

“Trade Me has been part of the fabric of Aotearoa for more than two decades and I feel incredibly privileged to be given the opportunity to lead this incredible business into its next era.”
