It wasn’t long ago that Nathan Miglani was navigating his own migrant journey, figuring out how to build a life from scratch in New Zealand.

Today, the New Zealand-based adviser, is being celebrated as one of the country’s top three mortgage experts, and the very best the South Island has to offer.

The 2025 rankings of New Zealand’s Best Mortgage Advisers placed Miglani in third position nationwide, and number one in the South Island, a recognition he describes as deeply personal and satisfying.

“This is a very proud moment for the Kiwi-Indian community as it reflects the dedication towards simplifying financial literacy for Indian homebuyers,” Miglani said.

New call-to-action

It adds to a growing list of accolades.

Earlier this year, the  Canterbury Punjabi Association honoured him with an Excellence Award, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to the community. For Miglani, the recognition goes beyond professional achievement; it is about celebrating the resilience and progress of migrants like him.

“I am very proud to be an Indian adding a lot of value to the Kiwi community, whether it’s arranging finance for a family buying their first home, or helping someone invest in commercial property,” he said.

More than mortgages

While residential home loans are the foundation of his work, Miglani’s expertise has steadily expanded into commercial, business and development lending. He thrives in the space where ambition meets opportunity. “Over the last few years, my interest has developed in commercial, business and development lending. I love working hands-on with business communities interested in achieving their property and financial goals,” he explained.

His ability to connect with clients comes not only from technical expertise but also lived experience.

As a father of two, he says he understands the priorities of families making big financial decisions. “I can relate to a lot of families. That makes my job more rewarding,” he said.

The migrant journey

Miglani’s rise did not happen overnight. He arrived in New Zealand in 2009 from Fazilka, a small district in Punjab, with little more than determination and a willingness to start from scratch.

“I have a typical migrant journey story. I came here, did odd jobs, worked hard, and have been in this industry for over 10 years,” he said.

After years of persistence, he began building his career in mortgage advising, gaining experience.

In 2017, he launched his own Loan Market franchise in Christchurch. The firm quickly developed a reputation for its client-first approach and became one of the most trusted brokerages in the country.

His dedication was rewarded with several national honours. In 2022, Miglani was named No.1 Mortgage Adviser in Australasia, while his firm was recognised as the Top Brokerage in New Zealand.

A collective win

For Miglani, the recognition is about more than numbers and titles. Each award, he says, is a reminder of what can be achieved through resilience, hard work, and a sense of responsibility toward the community.

From his beginnings as a new migrant navigating uncertain land to becoming a household name in New Zealand’s mortgage advisory industry, Miglani’s story is a reminder to all who’ve come and those who will.

For the Kiwi-Indian community in particular, his achievements stand as proof that migrant dreams, when backed by determination and ethics, can translate into milestones celebrated nationwide.
