Kashish Foods New Zealand, which supplies a range of products from atta and ghee to dahi and condiments, recently released a seasonal Diwali dry fruit platter in a Swastik-shaped gift pack, which caught the attention of some Reddit users. The Swastik is an auspicious symbol in Indian culture

The Reddit post, made four days ago, showed the Swastik dry fruit tray, an auspicious gift shared between families during Diwali, at a Pak’nSave supermarket. Users quickly commented, with one asking,

“Does anyone else see it?”

while another exclaimed,

“How could you nutsee it?”

For context, the Swastik was adopted by the German Nazi Party in the 1930s, which has led to its negative perception in Western societies, despite its positive meanings in other cultures.

Kashish Gupta, BDM at MG International Food Group New Zealand, welcomed the lighthearted discussion as an opportunity to share the cultural significance of the Swastik symbol.

“This product in question is a dry fruit nut gifting platter and it is a seasonal item, prepared for Diwali,” Gupta told The Indian Weekender.

“It is interesting to see this being discussed on Reddit,” he said.

Inviting people to clear up the confusion, Gupta added,

“It is interesting that the Swastika symbol is viewed in a negative light in Western societies, whereas the symbol is sacred for Indians.”

The Swastik is an auspicious symbol in Indian culture, representing the god of auspiciousness and Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. It is an ancient symbol used across many cultures, often representing concepts such as good fortune, well-being, the sun, and infinity. The symbol is sacred in religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

While some Reddit users were initially confused, others quickly clarified that the symbol represents sacredness and auspiciousness in Indian culture and has been long respected by many.

Started eight years ago, Kashish Foods New Zealand has grown to become one of the country’s leading wholesalers, offering a wide and diverse range of products.
