Padma awards 2026 announced: Dharmendra, Rohit Sharma among 131 honourees
The Indian government has officially announced the recipients of the Padma Awards for 2026, one of the nation’s highest civilian honours. Reported by The Economics Times.
The announcement was made on Sunday, on the eve of Republic Day, recognising individuals for their distinguished and exceptional contributions across diverse fields.
The Padma Awards are conferred in three categories — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.
These honours celebrate excellence and dedicated service in disciplines such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil services, and other areas of public life.
This year’s list includes several prominent personalities, among them veteran actor Dharmendra, Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma, and leading industrialist Uday Kotak.
Their inclusion highlights the wide-ranging nature of the awards, which span entertainment, sports, business, and public service.
In total, 131 individuals have been named as Padma Award recipients for 2026.
The honours acknowledge both nationally and internationally recognised figures as well as lesser-known individuals whose work has made a meaningful impact at the grassroots level.
The awards will be formally conferred by the President of India at a ceremonial function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, as per tradition. The ceremony is expected to take place later this year.
The Padma Awards continue to stand as a symbol of national appreciation, celebrating individuals whose commitment, talent, and service have contributed significantly to the country’s social, cultural, and professional landscape.
