India’s ride-hailing market could soon see fresh competition with the entry of NemBharat, a new platform promising a zero-commission and no-surge pricing model. Reported by First post. 

Positioned as a challenger to established players like Uber, Ola, and Rapido, NemBharat aims to differentiate itself through transparent fares and improved driver earnings.

The announcement follows the recent launch of Bharat Taxi, a Centre-backed ride-booking initiative. However, NemBharat is a separate, privately led venture.

The platform is being introduced by World Economic Mobility Limited (WEML), although an official launch date has not yet been confirmed.

NemBharat will operate under the Narayanihiti Trust and is being described as a prepaid, cashless ride-hailing service. According to WEML, the model seeks to address income uncertainty faced by gig workers in the current aggregator system.

What Makes NemBharat Different?

In its official release, WEML stated that NemBharat will not charge drivers any commission, subscription fee, or percentage cut per ride.

This means drivers would retain the full fare from each trip — unlike traditional ride-hailing platforms that deduct a share of earnings.

The company has also announced that it will eliminate surge pricing. For passengers, this could translate into stable fares even during high-demand periods when prices typically rise on other apps.

The prepaid, cashless model is intended to ensure clarity in transactions.

By removing commission deductions and surge multipliers, NemBharat says it aims to build a more predictable and balanced system for both drivers and riders.

The platform is expected to offer multiple transport options, including cabs, auto-rickshaws, and bike taxis, with potential expansion into other categories.

While WEML has not specified which cities will see the first rollout, it has indicated plans to develop what it describes as a “national transport network.”

How It Compares to Bharat Taxi

Unlike NemBharat, Bharat Taxi is backed by the Ministry of Cooperation and operates under the slogan “Sarthi Hi Malik.” Its fare structure is calculated based on vehicle cost, fuel consumption, and a minimum assured earning for drivers, which forms the base rate. Bharat Taxi currently operates in Delhi and parts of Gujarat, following an 80-20 revenue-sharing model and allowing drivers a role in decision-making.

While Bharat Taxi focuses on a structured revenue-sharing approach, NemBharat is promoting a zero-commission, no-surge alternative.

What Lies Ahead

India’s ride-hailing sector is dominated by Uber and Ola, making it a highly competitive space. For NemBharat to establish itself, successful execution will be key.

Transparent pricing and higher driver payouts could resonate in a market where both riders and gig workers have frequently raised concerns about high commissions and fluctuating fares.

As the launch date approaches, more details are expected. For now, industry observers are closely watching how NemBharat plans to position itself in India’s evolving mobility landscape.
