Following tests conducted after major abdominal surgery in January, Princess Kate Middleton has announced that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy due to the discovery of cancer, news agency Reuters reported. The 42-year-old, wife of Prince William, was hospitalized for two weeks in January for a successful, planned surgery related to a non-cancerous but unspecified condition.

In a video message, Kate revealed that subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer, but she reassured viewers that she is well and becoming stronger. "Based on my medical team's advice, I have begun a course of preventative chemotherapy," she stated in the video recorded on Wednesday.

Kate and William have chosen to handle the news privately for the sake of their young family, including their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. They sought privacy regarding the cancer until the start of their children's school holidays, which began on Friday.

In February, King Charles disclosed that he too would undergo cancer treatment, leading to the postponement of his public royal duties. Kensington Palace has not disclosed further details about the type of cancer Kate has been diagnosed with, but confirmed that she is on a recovery path and that preventative chemotherapy commenced in February.

After her surgery, it was announced that Kate would not resume official duties until after Easter. Her absence from public life has sparked speculation on social media.

"It took me some time to recover from major surgery before starting my treatment. But most importantly, it took us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is suitable for them, and to reassure them that I will be okay," Kate said.

Kate has not made a public appearance since joining other members of the royal family for a Christmas Day church service.
