A family is seeking financial support to bring the body of Lovedeep Singh Sandhu back to India after he died from severe burn injuries on November 4, 2026 – his birthday.
According to a Givealittle fundraising page set up by his cousin, Neelkamal Singh Sandhu, Lovedeep suffered severe burn injuries and was admitted to Waikato Hospital, where he received emergency medical treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the incident in which Lovedeep sustained the burn injuries have not been disclosed.
Despite the efforts of the medical team, he could not recover from his injuries and died on his birthday, the fundraiser says.
"Losing our brother on his own birthday has made this tragedy even more heartbreaking for our entire family. A day that should have been filled with happiness will now forever be remembered with sadness," Neelkamal Singh Sandhu wrote on the page.
The fundraiser has been launched to help cover the costs of repatriating Lovedeep’s body to India, including transportation and funeral expenses.
It also aims to provide ongoing financial support to his parents as they come to terms with the loss of their son.
Neelkamal, who is organising the fundraiser on behalf of the family, has appealed to the community for support, saying donations of any amount and sharing the fundraising page would help the family during this difficult time.
The family’s stated wish is to take Lovedeep home to India so they can perform his final rites and give him a dignified farewell.
"Our greatest wish is to bring Lovedeep’s body back to India so our family can perform his final rites and give him the dignified farewell he deserves," the page mentioned.
