Indian Techie Shot Dead by US Police, Family Alleges Racial Discrimination

Santa Clara police in California shot dead a 30-year-old Indian software engineer, Mohammed Nizamuddin from Mahabubnagar, Telangana, after he allegedly stabbed his roommate earlier this month. The incident occurred on September 3, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing inside his residence.
According to a police statement, Nizamuddin was found holding a knife and pinning down his injured roommate when officers arrived. The authorities said the situation escalated into an “officer-involved shooting.”
He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His roommate, who sustained multiple stab wounds, is currently under treatment. The Santa Clara Police Department and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office have launched a joint investigation.
However, Nizamuddin’s family has raised serious concerns, claiming that it was he who first called the police for help. They alleged that he had been a victim of racial harassment and workplace exploitation in the US.
His LinkedIn posts highlighted allegations of racial discrimination, wage fraud, harassment, food poisoning, eviction, and intimidation. In one of his posts, he wrote: “Enough is enough, white supremacy/racist white American mentality has to end.”
The family has demanded a thorough probe into the incident and sought assistance from India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to bring his remains home. Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan, who met Nizamuddin’s father, has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar urging intervention from the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Consulate in San Francisco.
