Former New Zealand Prime Minister Dame Jacinda Ardern and her husband, Clarke Gayford, have reportedly purchased a AU$5.3 million (NZ$6.5 million) home in Sydney’s northern beaches.
According to a report by 1News, the couple have reportedly settled on a five-bedroom property in Dee Why after looking at homes across the area, including nearby Curl Curl. The sale was first reported by the Sydney Morning Herald and The Guardian, with the property handled by Raine & Horne Northern Beaches.
The purchase is reportedly the highest residential sale recorded in Dee Why this year. The northern beaches suburb is known for its coastal setting, surf beach, cafes, restaurants and bars, and is around half an hour from central Sydney.
Ardern, Gayford and their daughter Neve moved to Australia earlier this year after selling their Auckland home. At the time, a spokesperson said: "The family has been travelling for a few years now," 1News has quoted.
"For the moment they are basing themselves out of Australia - they have work there, and it brings the added bonus of more time back home in New Zealand," as quoted by 1News.
The family had been based on Sydney’s northern beaches since moving across the Tasman, with the latest purchase appearing to make the area a more permanent base.
The reported purchase comes after Gayford recently shared footage of himself unboxing the Emmy Awards won by the documentary Prime Minister, which chronicles Ardern’s time in office, 1News has reported.
Earlier this year, Ardern was also awarded an honorary degree by Oxford University.
Ardern stepped down as New Zealand prime minister in January 2023. Since leaving politics, she has continued work in areas including leadership, online safety and climate-related initiatives, as reported by 1News.
