Singer Arijit Singh has announced that he is stepping away from playback singing, a decision that has taken fans and the music industry by surprise. Reported by NDTV. 

The acclaimed vocalist shared the news through an emotional note on his Instagram handle, addressing his listeners and reflecting on his journey in the industry.

He wrote, "Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey."

The announcement triggered an outpouring of reactions from fans across the country. While one user commented, "Kehdo account hacked hai," another wrote, "Bollywood music is empty without him."

Over the years, Arijit Singh has delivered some of Bollywood’s most memorable and soul-stirring songs. Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2 proved to be his breakthrough track, firmly establishing him as one of the most influential voices in Hindi cinema.

Other fan favourites include Channa Mereya from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga from Half Girlfriend, and Hawayein from Jab Harry Met Sejal.

In recognition of his contribution to Indian music, Arijit has won two National Film Awards and was conferred the Padma Shri in 2025.
