Alpha advance booking: Alia Bhatt’s spy thriller collects ₹1.52 crore in pre-sales
The countdown has begun for the theatrical release of Alia Bhatt’s much-awaited spy action film Alpha, which is set to hit cinemas this Friday. According to The Times of India, the film has opened advance bookings on a promising note, with early pre-sales indicating positive momentum ahead of its release.
As the latest chapter in Yash Raj Films’ expanding Spy Universe, Alpha is expected to attract both franchise fans and audiences eager to see Alia Bhatt headline her first action-packed spy thriller.
According to The Times of India, early advance booking figures from industry tracker Sacnilk show that Alpha has collected an estimated Rs 41.05 lakh through ticket sales for its opening day across 10,293 Hindi (2D) shows in India. While the figure represents actual ticket purchases, the overall advance booking numbers become significantly stronger when blocked seats are included.
As reported by The Times of India, the film’s estimated first-day advance booking currently stands at Rs 1.52 crore after factoring in blocked seats. The early response suggests that exhibitors have shown confidence in the film’s opening, with bookings expected to increase further as the release date draws closer.
The Times of India reports that Maharashtra has emerged as the strongest-performing market during the advance booking phase. The state has recorded advance sales worth Rs 34.76 lakh, including blocked seats.
Delhi follows closely behind with Rs 34.35 lakh in advance collections, while Gujarat has contributed Rs 10.66 lakh to the film’s pre-release business. These three regions are currently leading the nationwide advance booking trend for the film.
Based on the present booking pattern, The Times of India notes that Alpha is currently tracking towards an opening day collection of approximately Rs 7–8 crore net at the Indian box office. While those estimates indicate a decent start, especially considering that bookings are still underway, the film still has the potential to improve its opening through strong spot bookings on release day.
Trade observers also believe that audience response will play a crucial role in determining the film’s opening weekend performance. If Alpha receives positive word of mouth after its first shows, the opening-day numbers could comfortably exceed current estimates and potentially move into double-digit territory.
The biggest question heading into the weekend is whether 'Alpha' can score a double-digit opening.
According to The Times of India, Alpha is an important release not only for Alia Bhatt but also for the future of the YRF Spy Universe. The film becomes the first female-led action thriller within the popular franchise, marking a significant shift from its earlier films that were fronted by some of Bollywood’s biggest male superstars.
Over the years, Yash Raj Films has successfully built one of India's biggest cinematic universes through blockbuster titles such as Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War and Pathaan. These films, headlined by Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan, helped establish the Spy Universe as one of Bollywood’s most successful action franchises.
However, The Times of India points out that Alpha arrives at a time when the franchise is looking to regain momentum following the relatively underwhelming performance of War 2.
While the Spy Universe continues to enjoy a strong fan following, the latest instalment carries added expectations as it seeks to deliver another major box office success.
Another advantage working in Alpha’s favour is its release calendar. According to The Times of India, the film will enjoy a largely solo release this weekend, facing only limited competition from the family-oriented animated film Minions and Monsters, the latest entry in the Minions spin-off franchise. With minimal competition at the box office, Alpha has a favourable opportunity to attract audiences across multiplexes and strengthen its collections over the opening weekend.
As advance bookings continue over the next two days, trade analysts will be closely watching whether the film can build enough momentum to cross the double-digit mark on its opening day and deliver another successful chapter in the YRF Spy Universe.
