Front car park taped off


Reporter Bella Craig says the front car park has been taped off.

She said there’s now 20 police officers standing outside the main entrance and 15 cars right across the entrance, the front car park has been taped off

'It's really horrible': Staffer says mall needs more security


One staffer at a large store in Sylvia Park says retail workers need more security.He says this is the second incident as a store worker he's been involved in where he heard gunshots.
He says he was working in the storeroom when he heard yelling over the radio, other employees told him they had seen a man running and heard multiple shots - between four and five but could not agree."It's really horrible," he saidHe says he saw helicopters, fire trucks, police cars and officers with black vests through the store window.
He says the staff locked their doors and are still staying inside until they are told it's safe to leave.He says he doesn't know what the situation is outside and has not had much communication as to how to proceed."Retail workers are feeling unsafe, especially in Auckland."

She says the lockdown is still in place.

Shop workers told her they heard gunfire and shop keepers were told to lock their doors.

She said around 20 mins ago a fire engine was leaving with several police cars still outside.

Craig said people told her they could see people running.

 

Police seen putting up white sheet

Dozens of police and emergency services were seen inside and outside Sylvia Park Mall.

Near one of the car parks, outside Footlocker, Police officers can be seen putting up a white sheet.

Armed police were also seen inside and surrounding the mall.

A retail worker said armed police had locked down half the mall and were turning people away.

Police will not confirm reports of a stabbing or shots fired at the Sylvia Park mall this afternoon but say an incident has ended and there is no risk to the public.


St Johns sent three ambulances, three other vehicles.

Several people told RNZ that they had been shopping at the Mt Wellington centre when retailers were told to lock their doors.

One person said they heard what they believed were gun shots.
Hato Hone St John says they were alerted shortly before 3pm and sent an ambulance and other vehicles.

St John has not revealed whether it has treated any patients.

Police are remaining in the area.

More information is expected to be revealed soon.
