A routine trip back to Tauranga took an unexpected turn for Tauranga MP Sam Uffindell as he stepped in to take the wheel after his taxi driver felt unwell.

In a heartwarming Facebook post featuring a photo of taxi driver Ranjit, Uffindell shared his experience.

He said that after returning a rental car in Rotorua, his own vehicle broke down, forcing him to take a taxi home. The trip, however, didn’t go quite as planned.

“On my way back, my lovely driver Ranjit suffered a migraine. He was in real pain, pulled over and asked if I could drive the remainder of the trip, which I did,” Uffindell wrote, adding jokingly, “I can now drive a taxi.”

“We made it back to Tauranga in one piece.”

He said the two managed to reach Tauranga safely, later describing the experience as a light-hearted one.

The story quickly resonated online, drawing smiles and supportive comments from locals who admired the MP’s willingness to help in a moment of need.
