The makers of Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited Ramayana have unveiled a special behind-the-scenes video offering a glimpse into the making of the epic, featuring director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.
' The BTS video was released on Ranbir’s 44th birthday on Monday and focuses on his casting as Lord Rama, his preparation for the role and the scale of the upcoming two-part film.
Hindustan Times reported that Ranbir will portray Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana, Sunny Deol portrays Hanuman and Ravi Dubey essays Lakshman.

In the behind-the-scenes video, director Nitesh Tiwari discusses the significance of selecting the right actor for a project like Ramayana, considering the deep faith, cultural significance and emotional connection that audiences have with the epic.
According to Hindustan Times, Ranbir also opens up about taking on the role of Lord Rama and explains that he considers it a responsibility rather than simply another character in a film.
“It is not ki mujhe ek film offer hui hai, role exciting hai… ye ek jimmedari hai,” he said.
Ranbir’s comments offer a glimpse into the approach he has taken towards portraying the revered character. The film’s makers have been developing the project on a large scale, bringing together Indian and international filmmaking talent for the adaptation.
Sai Pallavi also recalled the image of Lord Rama that she had grown up seeing and how that childhood impression influenced her perception of Ranbir in the role. Speaking about her first reaction to seeing him as Rama, she said:
“He is a very slender Rama and his head is a little tilted… and there's a bow this way. There's a small and petite Sita. That is the image I remember from my childhood. Now suddenly I could see that Rama that I saw in my childhood and I was awestruck.”
Her comments, reported by Hindustan Times, highlight the emotional impact of seeing the character she remembered from childhood being recreated for the film. The BTS footage gives audiences a closer look at the process behind bringing these familiar characters to the screen.
The video also offers a glimpse into the extensive action preparation undertaken for Ramayana. International action director Terry Notary has trained Ranbir for the film’s action sequences, while stunt professionals from different parts of the world have been brought on board for the ambitious project.
Producer Namit Malhotra has assembled a team combining Indian and international talent, with the film aiming to present the epic on a large cinematic scale while retaining its cultural roots. Hindustan Times noted that the project is being mounted as a two-part adaptation with a large ensemble cast.
About Ramayana
Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is planned as a two-part film. The ensemble cast includes Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi and Kunal Kapoor, among others.
According to Hindustan Times, the first part is scheduled for a worldwide release during Diwali 2026, while the second part is planned for Diwali 2027. The films are set to release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam across India.
The makers have also begun building anticipation around the film through its promotional campaign. Ramayana recently unveiled its first song, “Jai Jai Ram”, while new posters featuring Ranbir as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Yash as Ravana have also been released.
