Mohanam 2026 has marked a significant milestone for the Malayali community in Aotearoa, bringing together culture, achievement and celebration in a large-scale showcase of unity.

Presented by Malayalam FM 104.6, the flagship event was held on 21 February 2026 at the Due Drop Events Centre. The Four Winds Theatre was filled to capacity with 650 guests, underscoring the growing visibility and engagement of the Indian ethnic community in New Zealand.

The highlight of the evening was the grand finale of the inaugural Mrs Kerala New Zealand 2026 competition, described by organisers as a women-led initiative aimed at empowerment. The event drew more than 100 expressions of interest from across the country. Following months of auditions, mentoring and preparation, 15 finalists took to the stage, presenting a showcase centred on confidence, talent, leadership and cultural identity.

Revathy Maya was crowned Mrs Kerala NZ 2026. Janet Jolly Alapatt was named First Runner-Up, while Devika Gopi received the title of Second Runner-Up. The programme also introduced the Community Excellence Awards, recognising contributions within the Malayali community. Honours were presented for Malayali Nurse of the Year (Male and Female), Organisation of the Year and Malayali Icon of the Year, acknowledging years of service and community impact.

Entertainment formed a key part of the evening, with the Golden Era live orchestra segment featuring classic melodies and stage performances.

The event was attended by Act leader David Seymor, List MP Deborah Russell, List MP Priyanca Radhakrishnan and community leader Mahesh Murlidhar, among other dignitaries.

Organisers described Mohanam 2026 as a celebration grounded in unity, empowerment and collective pride, reflecting the strength and cohesion of the Malayali community in New Zealand.
