The 77th Republic Day of India was celebrated with enthusiasm and pride by the Indian diaspora in New Zealand, reflecting the country’s rich diversity and its remarkable journey over the past seven decades.
Events were held at the Indian High Commission premises in Wellington and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Auckland’s Mt Eden.
In the capital, the celebrations were led by outgoing Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand, Neeta Bhushan, while Consul
General Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi presided over the festivities in Auckland.
The day began with the unfurling of the Indian national flag, followed by renditions of the national anthem and the patriotic hymn Vande Mataram, 
fostering a strong sense of community and national pride among attendees.
In Auckland, the event drew a large gathering of Indian community members who celebrated with cultural performances, including traditional dances and patriotic songs. Many participants donned vibrant Indian attire, waving the national flag and capturing the moments in selfies, celebrating the spirit of togetherness.
A light lunch featuring classic Indian dishes such as chole, puri, dal, chawal, and the ever-popular ladoo was served, adding a flavorful touch to the day’s festivities.
Community leaders also addressed the gathering, reflecting on India’s heritage and the enduring significance of Republic Day for Indians both at home and abroad.
The celebrations in New Zealand underscored the close-knit nature of the Indian diaspora and their continued connection to the cultural and democratic ideals of their homeland.
