Indian Motel Manager Beheaded in US, Grisly Details Emerge

Chandramouli Nagamallaiah, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez

Shocking new details have emerged in the brutal killing of Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old Indian motel manager who was beheaded by his employee in Dallas earlier this week, NDTV World reported.

According to an arrest affidavit cited by NDTV, the attacker, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, a 37-year-old Cuban national, became enraged after Nagamallaiah instructed another staff member to translate directions instead of speaking to him directly. The dispute began over a broken washing machine that Nagamallaiah told Cobos-Martinez not to use.

Moments later, Cobos-Martinez retrieved a machete and repeatedly struck Nagamallaiah. Surveillance footage showed the victim running across the motel parking lot, pursued by the attacker. Despite attempts by Nagamallaiah’s wife and son to intervene, Cobos-Martinez pushed them aside and continued the assault.

According to NDTV, the assailant went through Nagamallaiah’s pockets during the attack, stealing his phone and key card before beheading him. Video evidence reportedly shows Cobos-Martinez kicking the victim’s severed head across the lot before disposing of it in a dumpster.

Police arrested Cobos-Martinez shortly after. He has since admitted to using the machete in the killing and now faces a capital murder charge, Dallas County Jail records confirm.

New call-to-action

Violent Past and Immigration Status

As reported by NDTV World, Cobos-Martinez has a long history of violent crime. In 2017, he carjacked a woman in South Lake Tahoe while naked, later receiving an 18-month prison sentence. In 2018, he was charged with indecency and assault involving a child. He has also faced arrests in Florida and Houston.

Despite a removal order, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released Cobos-Martinez from custody earlier this year, citing "no significant likelihood of removal in the foreseeable future." At the time of the Dallas murder, he had an active probation violation warrant out of California.

Indian Consulate Responds

The Consulate General of India in Houston expressed condolences to Nagamallaiah’s family. In a statement on X, officials confirmed they are in contact with his relatives and coordinating with Dallas Police to ensure justice.
