The recent meeting in New Delhi between India’s Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar and Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi reminds us that India and Afghanistan have been good friends for a long time.

New call-to-action

Even with security problems in the area, both countries show that they respect and trust each other, and that talking things out is the key to their friendship. India appreciates that Afghanistan condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam. It proves they both want to fight terrorism and make South Asia peaceful and stable.

Besides security, the meeting showed that India is still dedicated to helping Afghanistan grow. Whether it's health projects like the Thalassemia Center, and Oncology and Trauma Centers, or giving food, artificial limbs and ambulances, India is a dependable friend to the Afghan people.

These efforts aren't just politics. They show India feels responsible for helping a neighbour that has had a rough time with wars and natural disasters for many years.

Education is also a big part of this friendship. Scholarships for Afghan students in Indian programmes will support a new generation and strengthen cultural ties.

Also, working together on things like infrastructure, hydroelectric projects and trade, such as the India-Afghanistan Air Freight Corridor, means they are both looking ahead to find lasting ways to grow and recover economically.

Cultural and sports exchanges, like cricket, might seem small, but they are actually very important. These activities create people-to-people bonds that are just as important as government actions in building strong friendships.

They remind us that the friendship between India and Afghanistan isn't just something happening in government offices; it's alive in classrooms, hospitals, fields and communities in both countries.

New call-to-action

Basically, the recent talks in New Delhi confirm that India and Afghanistan have more than just similar goals. They share a past, a culture and a dream for a peaceful, rich region.

India's help with growth, aid and getting people involved shows a friendship that is deeper than politics. It's based on shared values and humanity.
