Auckland Dances to the Beat of Tradition at ‘Garba Night’ 2025

The Bihar Jharkhand Association of New Zealand (BJANZ) hosted its annual “Garba Nights” on Saturday, September 6, transforming 258 Balmoral Road into a hub of colour, music, and cultural vibrancy.
The event drew a diverse crowd, offering Aucklanders an opportunity to experience one of India’s most celebrated folk traditions.
Garba, a traditional dance form from Gujarat and Rajasthan, was the highlight of the evening. Dressed in vibrant chaniya cholis and kurta pyjamas, participants filled the dance floor, moving in rhythmic circles to pulsating beats. The atmosphere was festive and inclusive, with attendees of all ages joining the celebration.
The event was supported by festival partners including Bank of India, Kaumātua Energy, National Finance, Travelshop, RANZ Financial Services, and Unique Beauty & Hair. A traditional Indian dinner enhanced the festive spirit, while entrepreneurial stalls added variety and flair.
Highlights included “Taste of Bihar” by Shweta Jaiswal, which served authentic Bihari delicacies, “Shining GemZ” with its jewellery collection, and Ronnie Singh’s stall offering refreshing beverages.
BJANZ President Amit Shankar Verma described the evening as a memorable success: “It was an evening of rhythm, tradition, and celebration. Seeing the community come together with such energy and enthusiasm was truly heartwarming,” he said.
Community voices reinforced the sense of unity. Shalini Alok praised the energy of the celebration, Prakash Jha noted the importance of reconnecting with cultural roots, and Rani Singh emphasised the event’s role in keeping traditions alive for future generations.
The success of Garba Nights 2025 reflects BJANZ’s ongoing commitment to promoting Indian culture in New Zealand and highlights the power of tradition in strengthening community bonds.
