Humm FM 106.2 reaches a new milestone

Auckland's popular Indian radio station Humm FM 106.2 has reached a new milestone by becoming fully commercial starting from Wednesday, August 1.
“Humm FM has been operating on a Local Commercial License for the past seven years. Starting Wednesday, August 1, the Spectrum License was transferred to us as a Full Commercial License.
“This is at par with all mainstream FM licenses,” said a beaming Roshila Prasad, Managing Director of the popular radio station.
Humm FM has also used the occasion to rebrand itself as a trendier and peppier radio station with a new logo that was launched at a stylish event on Tuesday, July 31.
The event held at Cordis Hotel witnessed a participation of about 200 people including community leaders, its business supporters and listeners along with in the Humm FM team.
The radio station changed its logo to a new, more colourful and dynamic outlook to reflect a fully commercial radio station.
The grant of Full Commercial License, which is at par with all mainstream FM licenses, has made Humm FM the only full commercial Indian FM radio that is independently owned in Auckland.
Humm FM 106.2 was started in 2011 and remains the only Hindi FM radio station catering to the Indo-Asian audience in Auckland.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Prasad said, “We had around 6000 listeners in 2011 as per TRN Radio Survey six months after we went to air.
“We can very proudly say that we are the only Indian radio station in Auckland that has recorded the highest number of listeners ever - which is 56,800 in 10+ cumme in GFK survey [GFK Commercial Radio Survey S2 2017].”
The drinks and nibbles event started with a brief introduction of the station, the team and work done over the years and then with a bang the team launched the new logo with the promise to bring more peppiness and colour through its music and shows to the growing Indo-Asian community in Auckland.
Humm FM's audience has grown manifold over the years with becoming the hottest radio station for the Hindi speaking crowd in the town. The station besides bringing music to the public also hosts and participates in several events for the community such as hosting Humm FM Holi in collaboration with Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust, participating in the Santa Parade on Queen Street, 55-hour radiothon Christmas for the kids, fundraising for Fiji Cyclone, Nepal earthquakes, Uttarakhand flood relief, and regular donations to the NZ Salvation Army.
Humm FM is also the only Indian station to be brand partners for Indian International Film Academy (IIFA).
Humm FM has flown to IIFA award destinations, which are in different countries every year to meet Bollywood idols and enjoy awards night.
“With this new change or re-branding, Humm FM looks forward to taking a new direction and providing our listeners with more diversified shows, and music,” Ms Prasad told The Indian Weekender.
