Kiwibank working on delivering better services to the Community

Versatility and innovation, coupled with a “can-do” Kiwi attitude, is what has seen Kiwibank building and thriving on its successes over the past 10 years.
And the locally owned bank is firmly set on achieving even bigger successes by delivering even better services to the community, says Mobile Mortgage Manager Naveet Prasad. Naveet tells Indian Weekender why Kiwibank is the bank of choice for the people of New Zealand.
Q: Congratulations to the team of Kiwibank on completing 10 years in operation. What would you say have been your one single big achievement, something that you are proud of?
Proud of being a Kiwi bank for New Zealand. In just 10 years we have achieved a lot. We’ve built a bank that changed the industry landscape. A bank specifically for Kiwis. A bank they tell us they love. Since we began over 800,000 customers have joined us (give or take a couple). And we’ve grown a lending book of around $11 billion. No mean feat.
Q: What has been the focus of Kiwibank in all of these years?
Ten years ago, our cause was simple: To provide a low-cost banking alternative to the four major banks. And we did it. As we have grown, this has continued to be our key focus with the aim to bring innovative products to the market and continue to save Kiwis money.
Q: The last decade has seen recession, earthquakes and a lot of fluctuation in the market, what has made you (Kiwibank) survive this?
Our versatility and innovation has enabled us to handle the fluctuations with a Kiwi can do attitude. This saw us remain the only major bank in the country to lend over 80 per cent during the peak of the Global Financial Crisis.
Q: Auckland, being a very culturally diverse market, what has been your strategy or plans to reach out to the ethnic market?
As we grow and have built a strong base to allow us to continue doing so, now we can look towards how we diversify in our markets to reflect the needs of the communities we work with. We are looking forward to leveraging the opportunities the cultural diversity of Auckland brings by building a clearer picture of our growth goals and aligning those to the needs of New Zealand’s most multi-cultural city. We will be looking to bring a stronger presence into these ethnic markets over the coming year, so watch this space.
Q: What would your future focus areas be?
Our future is also about growth, but in a different way. Our purpose is now to place a more vital role in shaping New Zealand’s economic future – to be at the heart of creating it. We’ll only achieve that if we continue to grow and diversify our business in the right ways. This means continuing to focus on what has been our core business of home lending along with branching out into other key areas such as investments (like our acquisition of Gareth Morgan Investments) and insurances etc.
Q: Will consumer banking lead the way for you?
As mentioned above consumer banking will form the backbone of our business as it allows us to deliver to our key purpose. Having said that as with any growing business we will look to strengthen that core with other key business lines to provide us a sustainable future and continue delivering great value banking to all New Zealanders.
Q: What is your message to the Kiwi Indian community?
Kiwibank is here to help, whether you would like to purchase your fist home, refinance your current property or an investment property, I would be more than happy to have a chat. Just give me a call to discuss what your needs are. I understand and speak fluent Hindi, and have over eight years of lending experience, and am here to help you.
