Indian-Owned Food Delivery App making waves in Chch

Gimme is a food delivery app launched by Indian tech entrepreneurs in Christchurch, New Zealand, that offers a user-friendly platform for customers to order food from their favourite restaurants. The app's success in a competitive market like Christchurch, which has the presence of big global players, is a testament to its team's hard work and dedication.
The app was created with the goal of making food delivery quick, easy, and accessible to everyone. With its user-friendly interface, Gimme allows users to browse menus and place orders with just a few taps on their smartphones.
The app was initially launched by a couple of Christchurch-based entrepreneurs in the year 2017. Since its acquisition in 2021 by Indian serial entrepreneur Vansh Singh, the app has undergone significant overhauls and upgrades.
Speaking to Indian Weekender, Singh shared the vision and plans for the app going forward, "The current Avatar of GIMME started in early 2021. It has a modern contemporary high-tech delivery platform with a focus on sustainability and top-class service,"
"The company has a mission of helping people get access to affordable food and beverage delivery services. So much so that sometimes I personally deliver food and beverage for an up close and personal touch with our customers. Another goal is to help local food and delivery entrepreneurs thrive in the eco-system and not let the big multinational companies take away the feeling of enterprise from the local businesses."
Since its launch, Gimme has quickly become one of Christchurch's most popular food delivery apps. The app has received positive reviews from customers, who appreciate the convenience, affordability, and commitment to sustainability. Gimme has also received recognition from the local business community, who appreciate the app's focus on supporting local restaurants and promoting sustainable practices.
Speaking about some of the challenges, Singh shares, "I took over the company when it was struggling financially and technologically. First, there was Covid, which had its own challenges. Due to having the strictest lockdown period in the world, we struggled with hiring drivers, so we introduced better incentives to have them onboard. One unfair advantage we have always had is the cash burn capacity of big players like Uber Eats and Door Dash. We brought both capital and new technology, thus creating the new avatar."
Singh is a serial entrepreneur with 12 years of corporate experience in healthcare and exports and five years of experience scaling up startups, venture capital, strategic partnerships and accelerators.
Sharing specific app features, Singh says, "We have built a highly localised model to serve people who need affordable services. For example, we have low-priced meal boxes subscriptions for students on the app. We are also community focused. For Kiwi-Indians, we have many options bundled with pocket-friendly deals like Beer and Chicken starters, Whiskey and Mutton, etc. The drinks listed on the app are at super discounted prices due to our focus on keeping costs friendly for our customers.
"The app's current version has a new look, new technology and the best rewards system for our customers. Customers can redeem these rewards for a variety of food and beverages thus creating tons of savings and convenience."
Sharing the platform's future plans, Singh says, "We wish to enable last-mile delivery for everyone who has food and beverage product that needs to be moved!"
Singh tells us the app is a source of pride and inspiration for NZ's Indian entrepreneur community.
"The drive for hard work and determination is a characteristic commonly associated with Indians. This same cultural ethos has contributed to the success of the Indian community in NZ."
