Phase 2 of 2021 Resident Visa — issues for some applicants

Phase 2 of 2021 Resident Visa — issues for some applicants

From the end of March, INZ started to release Phase 2 applications received through enhanced Immigration Online for processing. This is being done in groups, based on the expiry date of the principal applicant’s current visa.

Following these applications being released for processing, applicants have started receiving requests to upload supporting documents to their enhanced Immigration Online account.

Once these supporting documents have been received the application will move to the next stage of processing. This will include reviewing the supporting documents that have been provided, undertaking identity checks, assessment of health evidence, and/or requesting a New Zealand Police check or National Security Check (NSC) if required.

Once these activities have been completed, the application will then be passed onto an Immigration Officer and if they have no further requests for information they will make a final assessment and decision. We expect that you will start to see final decisions being made on Phase 2 applications from May.

Issue 1 — Supporting documents uploaded

Incorrectly

Around 300 applicants uploaded supporting documents to the correspondence section of their Immigration Online dashboard before being asked to do so. Unfortunately, supporting documents cannot be processed in the new system if they have been provided in this way.

Solution:

We are contacting principal applicants or their nominated representative today and requesting that they upload supporting documents correctly, once they receive an email from us instructing them of the correct process for doing so.

Issue 2 — Secondary applicants missing

Based on the answers applicants gave in their application, it appears around 700 may have intended to include additional applicants (like a partner or dependent child) in their application. However, the application they submitted did not include any secondary applicants.

Solution:

We will contact principal applicants or their nominated representative soon to advise them of what to do to ensure secondary applicants are included in their application. We will advise you of the process when it is finalised.

Issue 3 — Refund required

It appears that around 200 applicants may require an application fee refund. Some applicants wanted to include further details after they had submitted their applications. Therefore, they indicated they wished to withdraw their application and then later submitted another.

Also, in a handful of instances, the system has incorrectly charged an applicant more than once. This is not an ongoing issue.

Solution:

We are contacting principal applicants or their nominated representative today and inviting them to request a refund by completing our customer refund request form.
