Blazing the online trail

June 12 2009
Ever since Indian Weekender made its splash in the market in March this year, readers’ requests for an online version have been growing with each new issue of New Zealand’s fastest growing Indian publication.
Heeding your requests, dear readers, we at Indian Weekender, over the past few weeks, teamed up with the talented content and information technology team that put together the cool Indian community website www.sandesh.co.nz, also in March this year, to bring you the all new www.indianweekender.co.nz.
The initiative combines a proven talent pool with tremendous creative, journalistic and technical skills and decades of combined experience in creative industries, business and commerce to bring our readers an unparalleled experience never before seen in the ethnic Indian media space in New Zealand.
Rather than merely shovel our print content on to the web as most publishers tend to do, our aim is to both complement and supplement our print effort with an online component using all the attributes that new information and communication technologies bring with it: multimedia, interactivity, content delivery over mobiles and of course a host of e-business opportunities that would benefit both readers and our advertisers.
Many of our print stories will have the added dimension of multimedia, with video and audio versions. In addition, the new innovative e-business features we will be rolling out shortly will also offer avenues to enhance our valued advertisers’ business by offering new opportunities to connect directly with their target audience in a number of creative and innovative ways that are designed to bring great results.
Our team will work with our advertisers closely to achieve this over the coming months.
On the content front, we will continue with our much-appreciated initiative to bring you a range of viewpoints by a growing band of talented writers rather than push stories by a single writer going through the entire publication from the front page to the last. We will enhance the variety we have offered you over the past seven issues of our print edition – but with the added dimensions of interactivity and multimedia on the website.
When Indian Weekender launched, the instant feedback we received was appreciation about its varied content, its bold, new contemporary layout and graphics – and its superior paper quality. We have built on those high standards that we set for ourselves at the very beginning in bringing you indianweekender.co.nz, which we are sure you will notice when you browse the website.
We hope to grow the online edition into a balance between form and functionality bringing you not just an enjoyable but a useful and gainful multimedia experience to which you would look forward to returning every so often, for the online edition would be updated far more frequently than the present fortnightly schedule of our print edition.
Also, if you ever happen to miss picking up a copy of the print edition of your favourite magazine from any of our countrywide distribution centres (over 140 are in the Greater Auckland area alone) on every other Friday, log on to www.indianweekender.co.nz to download an online copy to read at your leisure.
We invite you to visit www.indianweekender.co.nz and explore its many features. You can read, listen to and watch several Indian and international radio and television channels, interact with our writers and columnists and do much more. And in the coming weeks, you will be able to do even more as we launch our many new online offerings.
Meanwhile, please register to receive alerts and announcements for special offers and contests with loads of prizes as well as to receive our forthcoming newsletter in your e-mailboxes.
And please do continue your dialogue with us, as you always have. Write to us, give us your feedback, tell us about a forthcoming event in your community that you wish to be covered, tell us anything you’d like the world to know. Indian Weekender and indianweekender.co.nz is your voice.
