Spending time outdoors is great therapy for wellbeing

Jibby Isaac is an influencer, a fulltime social worker, mother of two beautiful boys, a radio jockey with Jalsa Fiji Radio and the founder of JIBS Hiking Group. How does Jibby pack so much into her life? Indian Weekender’s Christchurch correspondent Silky Sharma finds out.
When you meet her Jibby always greets you with her absolutely beautiful smile.
“This smile wasn’t always there, there was a time when I’d lost it,” Jibby says. “I juggled through a bad time where I wasn’t sure where life was taking me, where my mental health was wobbly and I was caught up between counselling sessions, prescribed pills for anxiety and depression.”
Life is never easy for anyone. But it is one’s attitude to face and deal with what life throws at you that really counts. Everyone has their own way of coping and coming to terms. Jibby’s was to be close to nature, be immersed in its beauty.
“With time I realised the best therapy I had was getting close to Nature. We all must have heard that Nature is the best healer and perks to it is that its free of cost.
When asked about the idea behind her Hiking Group, Jibby says, “I started my journey as a solo hiker and explored places in South Island, North Island and Thailand. I had my first small group with my own circle of friends, seven of us and we did Cave Stream, Arthurs Pass together.
“During the Cave Stream this idea struck my mind when I saw my friends enjoying, having positive conversations and saying how wonderful this experience was. I was like ‘why not, expand this?’.
“It was Word of Mouth and now we are from seven to close to seventy of us. We hike once every month with proper precautionary measures, trained first aiders, and a well drafted transport plan and guidelines.”
For all of you who are reading this, Jibby has this advice: “We all go through ups and downs in our life and the best way to heal through it is to stay connected with Positive People and Positive Environment”.
If you choose to connect with nature and meet some fabulous people in Jibby’s group please direct message her on her Insta Page RJ Jibby. “Please note this group is only for nature and Adventure lovers,” Jibby says.
