St John, Indian Weekender to boost ambulance presence

St John and the Indian Weekender have agreed an exciting partnership – with St John (New Zealand’s largest ambulance provider) the charity of choice for the Indian Weekender for a six month period.

Indian Weekender directors and St John General Manager Northern Region Stephen Franklin have launched the partnership in Auckland during Diwali, festival of lights because of its synergies with the flashing lights of St John ambulances.

Indian Weekender has selected St John as their charity from now into next year, and will be raising funds to support St John.

From Wednesday, November 3, our paper will run a Make A Difference for St John campaign to raise awareness of – and funds for – St John. Helping out will be influential people from the Indian community, key St John figures and a host of support people from Indian Weekender and St John.

The aim appeal in our print and online editions is to raise $150,000 to buy a front-line, fully equipped Mercedes ambulance for St John. Events such as a fundraising dinner and charity auction will also provide a boosts to funds.

Mr Franklin is delighted with Indian Weekender’s generous decision to come on board and support St John.

“St John sees the Make a Difference for St John campaign as a positive and lasting gesture by the Indian

Weekender, its readers and supporters to make a real difference for St John and help ensure we will always be there for the people we care about in our community.

“St John is a charitable organisation that relies on public fundraising to provide its full range of services to New Zealand communities – including donations to help run the ambulance services,” Mr Franklin says.

Indian Weekender Director Giri Gupta says the campaign is an opportunity for the many Indian organisations, businesses, cultural groups and individuals to unite for one cause.

“We are all different but let’s work together to make a difference for St John,” Mr Gupta says.

“Indian Weekender supports the important work St John members do, saving lives and improving the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders. We will work with St John to raise the profile of the vital work they carry out for the community and to help raise funds for an ambulance to assist in that work,” he adds.

The fundraising the Indian Weekender does through its Make A Difference for St John appeal will directly benefit the community. Each year, St John cares for and saves the lives of thousands of people. To do this, St John ambulances travel more than 17 million kilometres operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Even though they may never need St John in a medical emergency, by supporting the Make A Difference for St John campaign, the Indian Weekender, its readers and supporters are ensuring the public continue to have St John services in our community.

Mr Franklin notes that St John and the Indian Weekender serve the community in different but important ways.

“With latest news and fresh perspectives aimed at the 120,000-strong ethnic Indian readership in New Zealand, the Indian Weekender embraces community participation through contributions of articles, events, or just about anything. This community involvement makes the Indian Weekender an excellent partner to promote St John,” Mr Franklin says.
