Diwali extravaganza in Hamilton

The year 2010 is very important for Indian Cultural Society as we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. Yes, for the past 20 years we have not only celebrated the traditions of Diwali, but Indian culture as a whole.
Diwali or Deepavali festival is the biggest and charismatic Indian festival where people from all age groups give expression to their happiness by lighting lamps, decorating houses, bursting firecrackers and inviting their kith and kin to their households for partaking in a sumptuous feast. Diwali gives the message of love, brotherhood and friendship.
This festival that illuminates the hearts and lives of hundreds and thousands of people is celebrated not only in India but all around the world.
Indian Cultural Society Inc, a non-profitable charitable organization based in Hamilton, has been celebrating this biggest Indian festival with all its fervour and enthusiasm for the past 20 years. Every year, it gives opportunity to around 200 local based artists to showcase their talents in Indian art forms.
It also serves as an occasion of an annual get-together for most of the 1500 families in the Waikato region. This year Diwali festival will be celebrated by Indian Cultural Society by holding 3.5 hours long stage programme on Sunday, October 24, at Founders theatre, Hamilton starting at 6pm with mixing and mingling.
Five professional Dance troops from Auckland, Waikato and Hamilton are participating in this auspicious event. Classical, semi-classical and folk dances will be portrayed on the stage. As a 20th anniversary special, we are introducing a “Bollywood Fashion Show” which will be demonstrated by a professional team from Auckland.
As food and sweets are unavoidable part of Diwali, this time food packets will be given to all attendees. The ticket price is only $10.00, which is the cheapest in town for a professional program with food.
In fact we spend a total of around $21 on each ticket for food, theatre rent, booklets, lights, sound, practice cost, security, performers cost, travelling etc, but we charge only $10 to the public. Thanks for the generosity of our sponsors towards this non-profitable charitable society.
Tickets are available in most of the Indian Dairy Shops and take –away outlets. Make sure to grab your tickets as early as possible as normally all the tickets of Diwali function will be sold out a week in advance.
