Khalistani Group Threatens Singer Diljit Dosanjh
Popular Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh recently appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, where a heartwarming moment between the two has sparked unexpected controversy.
In a video shared by Team Diljit Dosanjh on Instagram, the singer is seen performing his song Main Hoon Punjab on the sets of the show while Amitabh Bachchan introduces him as “Punjab da puttar” (Punjab’s son). The clip also captures Diljit touching Bachchan’s feet as a mark of respect, a gesture that drew admiration from fans online.
Zee News reported that the moment has angered the Pro-Khalistan group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), which has announced a “shutdown” of Dosanjh’s upcoming concert in Australia on November 1, coinciding with the Sikh Genocide Remembrance Day observed by the Akal Takht Sahib.
According to The Times of India, SFJ objected to Dosanjh’s gesture, alleging that Bachchan’s remarks in 1984 had fuelled anti-Sikh violence. SFJ’s Gurpatwant Singh Pannun said in a statement quoted by India Today, “By touching the feet of Amitabh Bachchan, the man whose words fuelled the 1984 genocide, Diljit Dosanjh has insulted every victim, widow, and orphan of the 1984 Sikh genocide.”
The group has also called on Sikh organizations and artists worldwide to boycott Dosanjh’s concert and announced plans to stage a Panthic Shutdown Rally outside the Australian venue. SFJ has further written to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, urging him to summon the singer for an explanation.
Meanwhile, Diljit has not responded publicly to the controversy. On the professional front, the singer-actor recently released his new single “Kufar” with Manushi Chhillar from his album Aura and is set to appear next in Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film, Border 2.
