A 40-year-old Indian doctor, Oumair Aejaz, has been arrested and charged with multiple sex crimes in the US after allegedly recording hundreds of explicit videos and images of children and women over several years, according to media reports.

Aejaz, who had no prior criminal history, was apprehended on August 8 after his wife alerted authorities with disturbing evidence. He is accused of placing hidden cameras in bathrooms, changing rooms, hospital settings, and even his own home, where he recorded children as young as two in various states of undress, according to Fox News.

In addition to filming children, Aejaz allegedly recorded sexual encounters with unconscious or sleeping women. The Oakland County Sheriff, Mike Bouchard, stated that the scale of Aejaz’s crimes is vast, and a full investigation could take months. Authorities believe there could be many more victims, as thousands of videos were found on devices in Aejaz’s home in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

"The victimisation is so broad and the perversion so great, we're just beginning to wrap our arms around it," Bouchard said, likening the case to the infamous Larry Nassar, the convicted sports doctor. He described the crimes as “disturbing on so many levels.”

Since Aejaz’s arrest, multiple search warrants have been executed, resulting in the seizure of computers, phones, and 15 external storage devices. A single hard drive contained 13,000 videos, and authorities are investigating whether he may have uploaded the material to cloud storage.

Aejaz was formally charged on August 13 with child sexually abusive activity, capturing images of unclothed individuals, and using a computer to commit crimes. He is currently being held at the Oakland County Jail on a $2 million bond.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald revealed that Aejaz’s wife had initially brought the incriminating material to law enforcement, prompting an immediate search of his home. She noted that investigators have uncovered "really jarring, alarming images" and expect more to surface.

Some of the allegations stem from an incident at the Goldfish Swimming Club in 2023, where Aejaz allegedly filmed a mother and her children inside a changing room. He is also suspected of recording patients in hospital rooms.

“These are children and moms at a swim school, a place they trust,” McDonald said. “They were victimised by a person of trust in the community – a medical doctor."

Aejaz, who moved to the US from India in 2011 on a work visa, was most recently employed as a contracted physician at various hospitals. His previous work history includes time at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital and Ascension Genesys Hospital.

Due to the difficulty of identifying the numerous potential victims, authorities have set up an email for anyone who may have information to come forward.
