A viral social media post comparing life in India and Australia has ignited a debate around hustle culture, work pressure, and the struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Reported by NDTV.

Manuraaj Garg shared his observations after speaking with a friend living in Australia. He described how his friend was sitting alone in a café at around 4:30 pm, calmly enjoying a cup of coffee without any work-related stress. There were no meetings, calls, or messages—his workday had already ended.

According to Garg, his friend’s routine included returning home on time, having dinner, and spending the evening cycling, playing golf, or taking a relaxing walk on the beach with his wife. He would then go to bed around 10 pm, feeling relaxed and at ease.

Busy Lifestyles in India

In contrast, Garg painted a picture of a typical evening in India. He noted that even at 8:30 pm, many professionals are either still working in offices or stuck in traffic.

Work often continues beyond office hours, with people taking calls while commuting and constantly messaging about meetings and urgent tasks.

He also pointed out that Sundays are not entirely free for many, as evenings are often spent preparing presentations or catching up on pending work, leaving little time for rest or personal life.

Garg further highlighted the constant pressure faced by Indian professionals, who often feel the need to keep up with others—questioning whether they are earning enough, progressing fast enough, or doing enough to succeed.

Despite improvements in lifestyle and opportunities, he suggested that many people rarely find the time to truly pause and unwind.

Concluding his post, Garg stated that in Australia, work is a part of life, whereas in India, life often revolves around work.

He added that his intention was not to criticise but to raise an important question—whether people in India’s fast-paced urban environments are losing their work-life balance in the pursuit of success and better living standards.
