Netflix’s animated blockbuster KPop Demon Hunters has shattered records to become the most-watched film in the streaming giant’s history, according to Netflix

Since its release on June 20, the film has amassed 236 million views, surpassing the previous record-holder, Red Notice (2021), which had logged 230.9 million views, according to Netflix.

The film follows the story of a K-pop girl group who balance their global stardom with a secret mission, fighting mythical monsters. Its unique blend of music, fantasy, and action proved to be an instant hit with audiences worldwide. Just last week, it dominated Netflix’s global streaming chart, adding 25.4 million views.

In a rare move for Netflix, KPop Demon Hunters also received a limited theatrical release last weekend, grossing an estimated $18–20 million at the box office, enough to secure the No. 1 spot for the weekend, Netflix reported.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, with a script co-written alongside Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, the film boasts a star-studded voice cast including Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo.

The soundtrack, crafted by renowned producers such as Ejae, Jenna Andrews, and Lindgren, has also been making waves on music charts.

With its success, KPop Demon Hunters now leads Netflix’s all-time top five films, followed by Red NoticeCarry-OnDon’t Look Up, and The Adam Project.
