Farhan Akhtar Confirms ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ Is Back on Track
Farhan Akhtar has officially confirmed that his long-delayed film Jee Le Zaraa is finally moving forward. Reported by Mid- Day.
Announced in 2021 with a highly anticipated all-female lead cast—Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif—the project faced multiple setbacks over the years, including scheduling clashes and ongoing rumours of cast changes.
The film instantly created buzz when Farhan unveiled it in 2021. Its biggest highlight was the trio leading the story—three of the country’s top stars united in a rare female-led road movie.
Sharing how the idea was born, Priyanka Chopra Jonas once wrote, “Let’s rewind, to me musing about wanting to do another Hindi movie ASAP, on an unusually rainy night in Mumbai in Nov 2019.
But it had to be the right one - different, cool, never been done before… I thought. The idea grew into a movie helmed by an all-female cast. There are not enough Hindi movies that are female multi-starters.
This led to an impulsive phone call… to my 2 real friends about this idea that involved 3 on-screen girlfriends. A celebration of friendship we called it!!”
Despite the initial excitement, the film struggled to move into production. Farhan recently explained to YouTuber Samdish that Jee Le Zaraa faced continuous delays even after the announcement.
Determined to make the film, he turned down several acting opportunities to stay focused on directing the project. The prolonged uncertainty led to “personal insecurities,” he admitted, though he never considered stepping away from the film.
The repeated delays sparked speculation that the movie had been shelved. However, Farhan has now put all rumours to rest. In a new interview with Deccan Chronicle, he confirmed that the roadblocks have been resolved, saying, "To be honest, it was painful trying to get the actors' dates. But we've straightened it all out. We'll start soon."
This confirmation comes after months of reports suggesting that the cast might change—ranging from Priyanka Chopra Jonas supposedly stepping away after becoming a mother, to talks of Anushka Sharma and other names being considered. There were also rumours of Katrina Kaif leaving the film. Farhan’s latest update makes it clear that the original cast—Priyanka, Katrina, and Alia—remains intact.
A great deal has changed in the years since Jee Le Zaraa was first announced, including significant life milestones for all three lead actors, each of whom has since embraced motherhood. Still, the anticipation around the film remains as strong as ever.
As the team prepares to finally begin production, fans are hopeful for more updates and excited to see the long-awaited film take shape at last.
