Kiwi-Indian managed Mt Roskill eatery hit in late-night robbery
A late-night robbery at a Mt. Roskill eatery has left the management facing losses of around $50,000 of after three men carrying weapons entered the premises and threatened the staff while customers were still inside.
The incident occurred at around 11.15pm on 21 March at Dicey Reilly’s Pub & Eatery on Hillsborough Road, which is being soon acquired by new Kiwi-Indian owners, and was being managed by them since March 1, 2026. The management say the losses include cash from the till and damage to the payment systems.
“There was a birthday party celebration with at least eight people at the eatery when the robbery happened,” Nikita Khanna, the new manager of the Mt. Roskill eatery, told The Indian Weekender.
“They [robbers] took 30 seconds to take the cash till out, broke the POS system,” Khanna said.
Khanna said two POS systems (a system of tablets, scanners and receipt printers used to process customer payments) were
damaged during the robbery. The systems, which are usually hired, were purchased by them.
"They broke and damaged the POS systems, took out two cash tills," Khanna explained.
Police arrived at the scene within three to five minutes of the incident, according to Khanna.
Police confirmed the incident in a statement, saying officers attended following the robbery.
“Three offenders carrying weapons (not a firearm) have entered and advanced towards the bar keeper and threatened another in a back room,” police said.
“They have stolen the tills before leaving the store and fleeing in a stolen vehicle, which was waiting outside,” they said.
Khanna said police later found one of the cash tills and modems.
She said she was at the bar when the robbery happened and that the offenders also “pushed” her.
Police confirmed that both bar keepers were uninjured.
The stolen vehicle was later located abandoned a short distance away in Mount Roskill, police said.

Khanna said the eatery had been operating for the past 25 years. She added that the business opened at 3pm on Sunday instead of its usual 11am following the incident.
“It was a very good week because of St. Patrick’s day last week, and it was a busy week for us, then this happened,” she said.
For the new management, who are soon to become owners, efforts are underway to resume operations due to existing event bookings.
Enquiries are ongoing, with a forensic examination of the vehicle to be carried out.
