Homeless Man Sells Fire-Ravaged Home for $490,500

A homeless Auckland man has secured a fresh start after his fire-damaged home sold for $490,500 at a $1 reserve auction.
According to a report by OneRoof, the 67-year-old, who lost everything when his Alverston Street home in Waterview burned down a year ago, was overwhelmed by the outcome. The auction drew strong interest, with 15 active bidders competing. The winning bid came from a man who plans to rebuild the property for his mother.
Ray White agent Hugh Free, who marketed the site with colleague Susan Woods-Markwick, said the result exceeded expectations. “He’s stoked. It went for a lot more than he thought it would. It means he can move on,” OneRoof reported.
The vendor had already received an insurance payout but chose to sell the land rather than rebuild. With the unexpected windfall, he now plans to leave Auckland and start a new chapter in his life, reported OneRoof
