New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS) has announced a nationwide recall of several frozen food products imported by Vimms Enterprises Limited due to the possible presence of Salmonella, Stuff reported.

The affected products are Deep Sprouted Mat Beans, Deep Sprouted Moong Beans, and Deep Surti Undhiu Mix. All batches and best-before dates are included in the recall.

New call-to-action

According to a report by Stuff, “Salmonellosis can be serious, so it is important that people do not eat these products,” said Vincent Arbuckle, deputy director-general of NZFS. Consumers are being advised to return the items to their place of purchase for a refund or, if that is not possible, to dispose of them safely.

Health Warning Issued

Salmonella infection usually develops within 12 to 72 hours of exposure and can cause abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Illness typically lasts between four and seven days but can be more severe in some cases.

Stuff quoted, “If you have consumed any of this product and are concerned for your health, contact your health professional, or call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for free advice,” Arbuckle added.

Distribution of Recalled Products

The Deep brand beans were sold in Auckland at Arjun Supermarket in New Lynn, Lotus Supermarket in Manukau Central, and Yogiji’s Supermarket in Henderson. The Surti Undhiu Mix was distributed through ethnic supermarkets nationwide, Stuff reported.

NZFS confirmed that the affected products have already been removed from shelves and were not re-exported. Similar recalls have also taken place in Australia and the United States.

New call-to-action

“As is our usual practice, NZFS will work with importers to understand how the contamination occurred and prevent its recurrence,” Arbuckle said, reported Stuff.

At this stage, no illnesses have been reported in New Zealand.
