A new housing development in the western suburb of Rockbank in Melbourne has its streets named after several cricketing superstars including Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev and Virat Kohli.
Notably, this western suburb has large Indian-origin population.
This upcoming estate is developed by Accolade Estate and comes under Melton Council.
So house owners could be living on “Tendulkar Drive”, “Kohli Crescent” or “Dev Terrace.“
Other cricketing greats from around the world also have their names on the streets are The estate such as “Waugh Street”, “Miandad Street”, “Ambrose Street”, “Sobers Drive”, "Kallis Way", "Hadlee Street" and "Akram Way".
Usually the estate developers submit the street names which are then approved by the city council if they meet Office of Geographic Names guidelines.
Understandably, there was a huge response from the Indian community interested in buying houses on these streets and the inquiries have reportedly doubled.
