Top teams set to kick off top soccer action

A premier soccer extravaganza kicks off in Auckland next week involving top teams from New Zealand, Fiji and Australia.

Organised by the New Zealand Fiji Football Inc (NZFF Inc.), the tournament has the backing of Fiji Football Association and the Australia Fiji Soccer Association.

“NZFFF, after becoming an associate member of Fiji Football Association earlier this year with Australia Fiji Soccer Association (AFSA) moved an idea with Fiji Football Association to host Pacific Cup in Auckland New Zealand. This was given the green light by Fiji FA and AFSA,” president Sachin Dutt said.

“This tournament, which will be the inaugural for Pacific Cup, is set to be played in alternate countries, that is, Australia and New Zealand. The partnership between Fiji FA, NZFF Inc., and AFSA is a milestone achievement in terms of promoting and supporting Fiji FA in the neighbouring countries.”

The tournament will feature the four semi finalist’s from BOG in Fiji and four semi finalist from their IDC with a team from Australia under the banner of AFSA and also invited Waitakere United to be part of this tournament.

All teams confirmed their participation and with a 10-team format, Pacific Cup 2012 was born. The teams from Fiji are as follows: Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Labasa. The New Zealand Teams are Nadi, Navua, Labasa and Nasinu with ASFA Austraila being the AFSA team and Waitakere United as the tenth team.

The pools were drawn during the IDC at Bill Mackinlay Park in October 2012 and in Pool A we have, 4R Electrical Ba, Hot Bread Nadi, AFSA Australia, NZ – Nadi and NZ – Labasa. In Pool B we have, Labasa – Fiji, Shop & Save Lautoka, Waitakere United, NZ Nasinu and NZ Navua.

“NZFF Inc officials and executives have worked tirelessly to make sure every team is well catered for in this tournament. The four teams from Fiji are looked after various Fan clubs in terms of food and other requirements.

“This tournament is for one and all and we all are so passionate about Fiji Soccer and especially our home teams and this tournament gives us the privilege to witness some of our own teams playing in Auckland New Zealand,” Dutt said.

The fixtures are set in such a way that maximum attendance is entertained on all the five days with some feature matches on each day.
