Paresh Rawal delivers a thought-provoking, rib-tickling comedy

As promised, Paresh Rawal with his team of talented thespians delivered a rib-tickling and thought-provoking play at a full house Victory Convention Centre last Friday.
The most awaited show of the year for the Kiwi Indian community, Kishan vs Kanhaiyya Reloaded, a play whose storyline and climax based on the premise of the existence of God – a belief challenged by a middle-class businessman as he loses his only bread and butter to a devastating natural calamity.
The play which was first performed in 2010 also saw a super-hit film and multiple versions of the play performed in different languages and with a slight change in script and ending.
The play besides Paresh Rawal, the protagonist, had another vital character of Krishna (God) played by theatre and film actor Jimit Patel and a group of six other supporting characters.
Although much of the dialogues and context of the show had been seen before with a few additions of new comedy situations and jokes –the play didn’t fail to impress the audience with impeccable direction, music, acting and situational comedy by the actors.
The audience enjoyed the emotional scenes and at times jumped off their seats and burst into laughter to the comic timings of the play.
Speaking to The Indian Weekender, lead actor Paresh Rawal said there is no difference in his reel and real life character when it comes to this play.
“Kishan Lal Mehta in the play Kishan vs Kanhaiya Reloaded and Paresh Rawal in real life are the same people with 100% similar characters and beliefs. I believe people are my God, and the humanity is my religion,” Mr Rawal said.
The dramedy staged in a small house and courtroom set raised some very vital questions of malpractices in the guise of religion invented and perpetuated by so-called high priests and religious centres. Undeterred by his conviction for justice and claim to his livelihood, Kishan provokes an awareness amongst the people to distance themselves from unnecessary religious practices and serve humanity- as the purest form of devotion and good deed.
Kanhaiya further supports Kishan's fight or God Krishna Kanhaiya played by Jimit Patel who helps him to by showing him the right way of fighting for his cause and enlightens him by showing him the simple right path –read and understand the book of God. The play takes a few twists and turns and unlike the film ends on a different yet positive note stating the fight towards righteousness is still on.
As promised by Paresh Rawal, the play did fascinate the audience, and it received a standing ovation from the crowd.
Brought by 4U Entertainment NZ and Krazy Promotions- the organisers said they were overwhelmed by the immensely positive response received by the Kiwi Indian community and look forward to bringing their next big project, a comedy play aroundValentine’s Day next year.
“We are happy that the audience loved the show and we had really amazing feedback from them at the end of the show,” Prem Upadhyay from 4U Entertainment NZ told The Indian Weekender.
