Mushaira and ghazal night returns on September 1

The Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of New Zealand is once again set to bring an evening of traditional mushaira and poetry session on Saturday, September 1 at the Fickling Centre in Three Kings.
The session usually starts with ghazals followed by mushaira delivered by prominent local ghazal singers in Auckland. The ghazals and mushaira done are written by eminent poets from India, Pakistan and having origins in the middle east too.
This year mushaira will be hosted by Roshini Chadha and delivered by renowned local poets in Auckland such as Hannan Khan, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Dr Yousuf Quraishi, Ghouse Majeed, Rahana Quraishi and Syed Mujeeb.
This annual mushaira and ghazal evening is organised every year to remember the evergreen works of the eminent poets and songwriters in India and Pakistan who have kept the essence of Urdu language alive and spread the words of wisdom, peace, brotherhood and love through their words and poems.
“These mushairas and ghazals invoke strong emotions amongst the lovers of the Urdu language and connects them with their mother tongue and culture,” President of Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of New Zealand, Roopa Suchdev said.
“This evening also brings back nostalgic memories for us and shows the rich culture, heritage and language our countries have,” Ms Suchdev added.
The Kavi Sammelan will be hosted by Preeta Vyas and delivered by Sri Shiv Bhagirath, Chirayu Bhatt, Bal Madan, Somnath Gupta, Brijinder Singh and Suman Kapoor.
Sham-e-Ghazal will be hosted by UHCANZ president Roopa Suchdev, Jyoti Virk, Nisaar Mirza, Arvinder Vasudeva, Arif Zia, Prabh Saran Singh, Sandeep Singh, Kanika Deish, and professor SD Mathur. Rashmi Sharma from India will also be joining for the event.
During ghazal sessions, the singers will be accompanied by a team of instrumentalists such as Kishan on harmonium, Basant Madhur on tabla and sound system, Akhilesh Madhur on guitar, and Anmol on Violin.
The annual magazine Dhanak will also be released at the event. Members of Parliament, community leaders, community members and supporters of the event will also attend the event. The event will start at 5:30 p.m.
