Prime Minister Jacinda Arden returns from maternity leave

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and partner Clarke Gayford have released their picture with daughter  Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford.

The picture was taken on Tuesday, July 31 at their residence and made available to the media only on Thursday, August 2.

Jacinda Ardern’s baby was delivered at 4.45 p.m. on Thursday, June 21 in Auckland, weighing 3.31kg (7.3lb).

Ardern, 37, became the only second world leader to give birth while in office, the first being Pakistan’s Benazir Bhutto in 1990 – with whom, coincidentally, Ardern’s daughter shares a birthday.

News of the birth was met with a flurry of excitement in New Zealand, the culmination of a nationwide “#babywatch” that began with the announcement of Ardern’s pregnancy in January and reached its peak right up to the birth of Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford.
