Women Care Trust in Papatoetoe and Auckland Library have collaborated to bring an exhibition on the stories of Indian migrant women settling in New Zealand.

'Punjabana Di Kahani Unha Di Zubani – Voices of Woman Care Trust' will be inaugurated at the Ladies Cultural Night, an annual event organised by Women Care Trust at Vodafone Event Centre in Manukau for the females of all ages from the Indian community.

The exhibition will showcase pictorial stories of Punjabi Indian women settling in New Zealand and the role of Women Care Trust who has a rich history of supporting the women in the country to have a better life.

Ladies Cultural Night is one of the most popular cultural events for the women of the Indian community, especially the Punjabi women organised by Women Care Trust every year. The event gets a houseful attendance with scores of dances, singing and comic performances.

The event will be a launchpad to show the work of the Trust for the women in the community supported by Auckland Library.

"Auckland Libraries worked with the Trusts photographic archive and drew on the inspiring oral histories of the migrant Punjabi women served by the Trust," Smita Biswas, Team Leader at West Auckland Research Centre, representing Auckland Libraries told The Indian Weekender.

"Auckland Libraries is proud to have facilitated the documentation of Punjabi women’s voices and is honoured to be the repository for their stories and the photographic archive of the Trust, to be preserved in perpetuity as part of the Auckland Stories project," Ms Biswas added.

The exhibition will be permanently installed at the Women Care Trust office at 2 Sutton Crescent in Papatoetoe.

Ladies Cultural Night will be held on Saturday, July 21 at Vodafone Event Centre from 6 p.m. onwards. The event centre has free parking for the visitors with tickets at a nominal amount of $10; there will be Live DJ, Live Play, bhangra and Gidda performances.
