Indian mum-son duo badly hurt in Grey Lynn dairy aggravated assault

Another unprovoked “aggravated and violent” attack on a dairy store in Grey Lynn on Tuesday, June 19, had left an Indian mum-son duo badly hurt requiring surgery in Auckland City Hospital.
Speaking to the Indian Weekender, Kaustab Roy, Duty Manager of next door liquor store Grey Lynn Fine Wine and Spirits said, “I saw the lady had multiple wounds, but she was screaming frantically for an ambulance as her son was badly injured and bleeding heavily.”
Mr Roy works in next door liquor store and was amongst first few people who rushed to the shop to help.
“I saw that the son was hurt badly and bleeding.
“Another person who lived upstairs came and tried stopping bleeding by his t-shirt and immediately called the police.”
“Police came in 5-7 minutes, and ambulance arrived shortly after that,” Mr Roy told the Indian Weekender.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard speaking at a media stand-up earlier this afternoon said, “at approximately 7.15pm last evening one male offender, armed with a knife, entered the dairy and waited until a customer left the store before walking behind the counter with a knife and without warning attacked the owner.
“Family members tried to intervene at which stage a 62-year-old woman was stabbed and assaulted. The offender then fled from the dairy towards Turangi Road.”
Kaustab Roy, Duty Manager of next door liquor store Grey Lynn Fine Wine and Spirits, who has been working in the shop for last two months, told the Indian Weekender, “I have known these guys since last two months. They are really very good people.
“Naveen Bhai, the owner of the Hylite Dairy, is not currently in the town.” Mr Roy said.
Knife located
Meanwhile, the police have found the knife used for the assault.
As part of their investigations on Tuesday night, police followed a blood trail and found the knife.
Currently, police are looking for three people in connection with the aggravated assault.
The offender waited for customers to leave Hylite Dairy in Grey Lynn before he went inside with a knife and stabbed two people.
Although police are still investigating, it is believed a "second or third person [was] outside at the time,” Detective Beard said.
Police appeal for more information
Police are appealing to the public for information on the aggravated robbery.
“Police have spoken to a number of people this morning and are currently speaking to one male who is helping us with our enquiries.
“However we would like to hear from any customers or persons who were around the dairy at around 7.15pm last night. We believe there were a number of people in the area at the time and are keen to speak to them,” Detective Beard said.
“This was an unprovoked and violent attack. We have had a large team of investigators working overnight on this incident and we are determined to hold the person responsible to account.
