Telangana Association hosts iftar for the community

The Telangana Association of New Zealand welcomed the Muslim and the broader wider community on Friday, June 8, for an Iftar party in Mt Roskill.

Iftar is conducted at sunset when Muslims open their fast with fruits after a long day of abstinence from food and water. It is the most crucial part of a believing Muslim who is observing fast when they gather with their family and friends and share a meal on one table.

“Telangana is home to 'Ganga Jamuna Tehzeeb' (a culture of communal harmony) and our Association in New Zealand hosted this Daawat-e-iftar for our brothers," President of TANZ Kalyan Rao Kasuganti told The Indian Weekender.

“To show solidarity with the Muslim community of the Auckland, TANZ hosted A grand feast for iftar at Hyderabadi Kitchen, inside Tulja Centre, Mt Roskill.

“The menu for the evening included fruits, traditional and most celebrated dish Haleem and Hyderabadi Biryani, and Kheer as a dessert for the community members,” Mr Kasuganti added.

The iftar was attended by more than 50 members of the Muslim and non-muslim community along with other religious and community leaders. Post breaking the fast with light snack and fruits, the evening Maghrib prayer was conducted by the Imam and Haleem, and Biryani was served as dinner.

TANZ on June 2, hosted and celebrated its fourth State Formation Day at Mt Eden War Memorial Hall and dedicated the event to the martyrs of the state who laid their lives for the formation of the independent state.

“The Telangana Association of New Zealand has been hosting Iftar parties for the community during Ramadan since its formation of the Association in three years ago.

“The Association has been giving equal importance to and officially celebrating the major festivals of all religions, to promote communal harmony in the Community. This practice will continue in the future,” Kalyan Rao Kasuganti said.
