‘Sounds of the sacred’: A concert to bring inner peace through music

Aucklanders are in for a memorable and inspiring evening on Monday, May 28th when six local performing groups representing various spiritual traditions are coming together to offer a free concert of peaceful, meditative music.
Singers and instrumentalists from Sikh, Christian, Hindu and various other musical traditions are combining in an evening highlighting both the diversity of Auckland’s cultures and their spirit of co-operation.
Local organizer Jogyata Dallas describes ‘Sounds of the Sacred’ as a concert intended to offer an experience of inner peace through music.
“Our concerts are interactive, and we try to encourage a meditative atmosphere and a peaceful stillness in our audiences.
“As performers, we also try to sing and play in the same meditative spirit, so that together we can co-create something very special.
“Music is a kind of universal language that unifies and harmonises and brings us all closer together,” Ms Dallas said.
The concert is supported by the Auckland Interfaith Council, and among the performers are local Mt Eden duo Monk Party; an instrumental/vocal women’s group from the Sri Chinmoy Centre; choirs from St Marks and Latter Day Saints church groups;Sikh Youth performers; the Sathya Sai organization; and musicians from the Family Federation for World Peace.
“Interfaith initiatives are growing in popularity,” said Sathya Sai’s spokesman Ravi Rudra.
“The United Nations have interfaith breakfasts, soccer and tennis competitions, cultural programs – it’s a positive way of encouraging a one-world family and harmony and a brighter future,” Mr Rudra said.
‘Sounds of the Sacred’ will be held in the Hillsborough Room in Mt Eden’s Fickling Centre, 546 Mt Albert Road at 7:30 pm.
Admission is entirely free, and tickets are not required.
