Ganesha Temple Christchurch project looks for community support
A small group of community members, who are passionately pursuing the dream of building the first Ganesha Temple in Christchurch, is reaching out to the wider community through Hindu New Year celebrations.
The group is reaching out to the community and inviting them to be a part of the event to be held at Fendalton Community Centre on 170 Clyde Road, Burnside in Christchurch on Saturday, April 14.
The ceremony will start at 10 a.m. with a traditional New Year ritual conducted by the priest of Kurinchi Kumaran Temple in Wellington T PathmanIyer.
“One of the purposes of this event is to unite the Hindu community in South Island and devotees of Lord Ganesha,” Naash Kamell Kanan, a spokesperson of the Ganesha Temple told the Indian Weekender.
The visitors will also be served with vegetarian food after the puja.
The Sri Ganesha Temple Christchurch project was initiated to build the first Ganesha temple in South Island of NZ to promote cultural, educational, and spiritual activities related to Hinduism.
The group currently holds prayer and social meetings on the second Saturday of each month.
